  • In-car breath tests for DUI offenders
    The devices are called ignition interlocks. If the driver's blood-alcohol level is above an established limit, the vehicle won't start. A bill proposes to make the interlocks mandatory for all second-time DUI offenders.

  • "Roving" police checkpoint catches DUI and unlicensed drivers
    More than 3,500 vehicles passed through a "roving" DUI and driver's license checkpoint that began at 6 p.m. Friday and continued until 1 a.m. Saturday.     CHARLOTTE COUNTY — Sheriff Bill Cameron announced the traffic safety team will conduct low-manpower DUI checkpoints between Wednesday and March 1. Deputies will stop traffic and conduct various test procedures looking for impaired drivers at multiple locations around the county.
