FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 17 (UPI) -- Former major league baseball player Jim Leyritz won't have to go back to jail since the alcohol-monitoring device in his car likely malfunctioned, a judge says.

Donna Sheedy, 60, faces one count of felony DUI involving death after authorites say she hit several motorcycles and killed one of the riders.

A DUI checkpoint last week in Newport Beach did not go on as scheduled, so police instead conducted a saturation patrol with officers specifically seeking out impaired drivers, authorities said Tuesday.
