The Highland
Police Department will be conducting a DUI/driver license
checkpoint tonight (July 9) on Victoria Avenue just south of Highland
Avenue from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.
A man with nine prior DUI
convictions was sentenced to 24 years to life in prison Tuesday for an
alleged drunken driving motorcycle crash that killed a 9-year-old girl
and maimed her father in a Novato crosswalk last year.
Lompoc
police will conduct a DUI and driver’s license checkpointtonight,
and again Saturday. Both checkpoints will be operatedsomewhere within
the city limits from 6 p.m. to midnight.
A DUI sobriety checkpoint
will begin Friday at an undisclosed location in Lee County. According to
the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, 24
fatalities and 464 injuries in Lee County were alcohol-related in
2008.
