    DUI / DWI Penalties

New Jersey law defines significant penalties for drunk driving. DUI and DWI offenses can include:

    1. A criminal record
    2. Thousands of dollars in fines
    3. Increased insurance premiums
    4. Loss of driving privileges
    5. Jail time
    6. Loss of professional licenses
    7. Community Service
    8. 10 points on your driver's license (12 points results in suspension)

Subsequent DUI/DWI charges carry more serious penalties.

In addition, you can be charged with DUI if police believe you are under the influence of a controlled, dangerous substance. You can also be charged with DUI / DWI if you do not take a breathalyzer test.
